The Pregnant Male
Ohhh? Is that true? There is a syndrome in medicine called as Couvade syndrome in which the husband experiences the pregnancy symptoms of his wife. Like morning sickness, weight gain even at worst Labour pain. It’s also called a sympathetic pregnancy. Medical researchers found out its due to hormonal imbalance (Prolactin, cortisol, testosterone) in the male at the time when his partner is experiencing symptoms.
The word Couvade can be traced to Ancient Egypt as a “sacred birth custom, of when a child is born, the man experiences the ritual of “labour” in which he takes to his bed, and undergoes periods of fasting and purification. In an act of sympathising towards his female partner. It sounds weird! When it comes to today’s world you can hardly see anyone sympathising for others. People became hard-headed, unforgiving, self-righteous and arrogant too. Some people even take pride in being arrogant and hurting others.
Many times we run for someone who can sympathise with us, who can listen to us, who can put their feet in our shoes and feel our pain. Heb 4:15 says
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin”. No matter what you feel God has come down to earth for you, He showed his Love for you on the cross. He will sympathise your needs, your hurt, your pain even if the whole world ignores you.
God bless you.
