97. Holi Dermatitis

Holi its a festival celebrated annually during the spring in most of the Indian provinces. The essential part is the varied colors (Gulal) applied on each other which is considered as an act of love and equality. Earlier days this Gulal was nothing but an extract from Gulmohar and Indigo trees in India. Modernization has led to tremendous use of chemical ingredients to enhance the color which has led to a recent skin condition called Holi Dermatitis. Researchers have discovered that the chemicals that are abused for the color mixture can lead to peeling of skin and eczematous changes.

Scrolling through the history we learn that it all began from Hindu mythology where a mother, owing to her child’s dark complexion smears color on his consort’ face. Given a thought, would a mother with kids of different complexion, smear color on the fairer kid just to console the kid with darker complexion? Recent trends as far as I’ve seen, people have misused this festive occasions for vitriollage too. Permanent dyes and solutions that would surely be hazardous to skin and eyes, are intentionally thrown on foes.

Our Creator, the Almighty God has filled this world with colors. Rainbow being a reminder of His promise.
Holy Bible uniquely symbolizes and has a meaning behind each and every color.

1)RED-Red represents Blood. It signifies the blood of Jesus Christ which saves us(1 Peter 1:18-19)
2)PURPLE-Purple represents Kingship, purple dye was expensive so making the color purple symbolic of prestige, nobility and kingship (Esther 8:15)
3)WHITE-The color white represents Holiness and Righteousness. Because of purity of color and Light (Isaiah 1:18)
4)GOLD– if we add L for Love to the word God it becomes Gold. Job says after God tries him he will come forth as Gold.(Job 23:10)
5)GREEN-The color green represents growing and blooming where one is planted (Jeremiah 11:16)
6)BLUE-Blue is the color of the sky it represents heaven (Nehemiah 9:6)
7)BLACK-symbolizes suffering and death (Jude 13)

Life is full of Colors, Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make it’s colors appear.
